Growing up in Ethiopia, Fariyal Abdullahi’s house was never empty. Aunts, uncles and cousins would come over every day, eager to eat her mother’s cooking. This communal spirit fueled her love for food, inspiring her to graduate from the Culinary Institute of America and hone her skills at Michelin-starred Noma in Copenhagen. Now, this James Beard Award nominee is leading the charge as the executive chef of Hav & Mar in New York City.
